In a nutshell...
I’m an award-winning Designer and Creative Director, with a passion for strategic & creatively driven design. I’m interested in results, with a focus on objectives that return on their investment.
I am experienced and confident helping clients to create project briefs, leading a team of designers, translating business strategy into communications and experiences, building design systems and running client presentations.
My experience spans across many sectors with a stronger focus on corporate and healthcare, across many disciplines including branding, digital, campaigns and marketing communications. I have particular experience with developing brand identities.
What i’m doing now…
Most recent assignments have been at Landor on new Barclays Brand Guidelines development, Goldbug working on BT and Thames Water identity development. Before that I was at Together, working on Pearson brand identity, helping the world’s learning company transition from a disparate holding company to a consumer-facing brand. Work has involved visual identity development and roll out for a number of Pearson owned global brands in the US, Asia, South America and Europe.
Before Pearson, I have been at MSL Group, helping to launch a new global business banking offer from HSBC, and at SalterBaxter working on FedEx Global Citizenship Report.
Previous to that I was working on brand development and visual identity guidelines for Royal Mail and Visa Europe.
How I got there…
After graduating from Falmouth College of Arts with a BA Hons degree in Information Design, I worked for creative advertising & design company Bite. Here I cut my teeth on a broad range of clients from small direct mail & branding programmes for numerous charities to large European car launch campaigns (Volvo).
This experience provided me with a good grounding in branding and client communications, whether business to business or consumer-facing. It also taught me the importance of words. On a practical level it equipped me with a well rounded knowledge of print production, commissioning and art directing illustration/photography and developing websites, becoming one of two head designers over four years.
After a short stint at award winning new media agency JKD I joined The Workroom taking a senior design role as part of the creative team. Here my clients included Joint Council for Qualifications, Reckitt Benckiser, The Roald Dahl Foundation, National Geographic Channel.
In 2005 I became senior designer at communication and marketing company Wechsler, where my clients included Center Parcs, UBS, Invesco Perpetual, Mogan Stanley and the Museum of Army Flying.
I went freelance in 2007 and helped agencies such as Conran Design Group, Landor Associates, UffindellWest and SAS with big ideas for pitches, developing corporate reporting stories or crafting identity projects for clients like BP, NHS, Vodafone, Land Securities and Shell.
In 2010 I joined Straightedge, becoming Creative Director. Responsible for managing brand and communications projects for clients including Now: Pensions, Hermes Fund Managers, Arthritis Research UK, NHS and Mercedes-Benz.
Member of ISTD (International Society of Typographic Design).
An active member of Tate.
A few kind words…
“I rate Jon’s creative input highly. NOW: Pensions set out to challenge the conventional pensions market. Through really understanding our brand his team has delivered ideas that communicate our message extremely effectively and supports our brand positioning”.
Strategy Planner, NOW: Pensions
“Lord’s Taverners needed a new brand and associated marketing collateral for a new, national disability programme. Jon took the time to understand the programme and charity and this reflected in an excellent pitch and concept. From the initial pitch, he managed to produce a concept that would resonate with the target audience and worked visually. The work also went beyond the initial brief, exploring how we can enhance our brand as a charity, producing high quality work and the interpretation and execution of the brief was brilliant”.

“Jon is a very talented, all round designer with the perfect approach – he is commercially focused and a fast, clear thinker – always designs with purpose to back it up. It’s a pleasure to work with Jon and he’s consistently inspired me, as well as our clients, with his creativity and knowledge”.
